Br� , ICP, Director of Economic and Urban Development�f <br /> SUBJECT: Intergovernmental Agreement—Wildflower Planting Program <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached <br /> agreement authorizing the City of Decatur to access funds from the State of Illinois for a <br /> wildflower planting program along state rights-of-way. <br /> BACKGROUND: City staff inet with representatives of the Illinois Department of , <br /> Transportation in early December regarding a proposed wildflower planting program <br /> initiated by Governor Rod Blagojevich. Under the terms of the program, the State of , <br /> Illinois will award up to $35,000 to sponsor wildflower plantings in right-of-way areas. i <br /> Participating cities must provide $5,000 in matching funds for the project's startup <br /> capital. An additional $5,000 per year is awarded to municipalities to maintain the I <br /> plantings. <br /> It is estimated that approximately eight (8) acres can be planted with the grant. <br /> Concentration areas will include Route 51 North, Downtown Decatur, as well as Route <br /> 36 East and West. Planting plans will be finalized with IDOT District 5 upon execution � <br /> of the attached intergovernmental agreement. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: City staff is working with the Million Flower <br /> Committee as a part of this project. The Committee is supportive of the City's <br /> participation in the State program. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objectors to this agreement. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Dane Bragg at <br /> 424-2727 or dbra�g_(�a,decaturnet.org. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: A $5,000 local match is required for the grant, it <br /> is anticipated that the match will be met with in-kind services and/or design expenses. <br />
