Mass Transit Memorandum
No. 112403-2
November 24,2003
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council Members
FROM: Steve Garm n, ty Manager
Paul McC a Mass Transit Administrat*,
1
SUBJECT: Transit Bus Route Elimination
SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution eliminating one
RECOMMENDATION: Transit System bus route: #14 Airport Plaza Express.
BACKGROUND: Staff finds that this route should be eliminated due to very low !,
ridership (about 7,600 riders in 2003) and the duplication of
service by two other bus routes. If this route is eliminated, then the I,
schedules of the other two routes will be adjusted to offer better
service between downtown and the airport area. (See below.)
About $87,240 per year could be saved by eliminating this route.
POTENTIAL A public hearing was held. There are no known objections to this
OBJECTION: proposal. Those who spoke at the public hearing requested that
the schedules of the other routes serving this commercial area be
staggered so that one route leaves the Transit Center at :15 past the
hour and the other leaves at :45 past the hour.
INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, Transit General Manager
OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME About $87,240 per year would be saved by eliminating this route:
IMPLICATIONS: about $47,982 (55%) saved by IDOT, and about $39,258 (45%)
saved by the City.
