Economic & Urban Development Department Memorandum
#03-82
September 3, 2003
TO: Honorable May r Paul Osborne and City Council Members
FROM: Steve Garma , y Manager
Linda Love, A g Economic & Urban Development Director
 Randy Johner, Construction Inspections Manager

SUBJECT: Residential Building Code
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Construction Inspections Division recommends
adoption of the 2000 International Residential Code as our model code for residential
construction. This code, along with deletions and amendments, would be added as Chapter 67 I
of City Code.
BACKGROUND: The City has never adopted a residential code, using instead the BO('A
Building Code as it's only model code which actually is written more for commercial buildings
We will retain that code in Chapter 67 and then will be able to refer to the 2000 residential code
which is strictly for one and two family dwellings.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None we are aware of.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: If Council members have questions they may contact Randy Johner,
424-2791, rcjohner@decaturnet.org
BUDGET/TIME
IMPLICATIONS: We would like to have this code in force by January 1, 2004.
