,
Cl';'" OF DECATUR, IiLINOIS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND 7USTIF'ICATION
Following is a description and justification for the proposed projects:
11.4.06 Acquire Shop Equipment ($ 10,000 Total/$2,000 IDOT):
purchase miscellaneous shop equipment, as necessarv.
The Transit System proposes to purchase shop equipment, as needed, to properly
maintain its vehicles. Our joal is to become capable of doin`more vehicle
servicin and repairs in house, without havin to send the vehicles to an outside
vendor for work. Potential purchases of equipment include heavy duty jac1
stands, to be used in conjunction with the new bus Iift.
11.4'?.11 Acquire Support Vehicles ($6,000 Total/ $13,000 IDOT):
purchase one heavy duty service truck.
Transit needs to replace one old service truck that is in very poor condition - 1979
Ford F30 truck with utility box body, used to tow buses. Transit proposes to
replace this with a heavy duty truck with rear tow bumper and front push bumper,
utility box body, small crane, front winch and "quick start" unit. This truck is
needed to tow or push buses, to service and restart buses on city streets, to assist at
accident scenes, to place passener shelters and benches, to place bus stop sis
and posts, etc. Because of the poor condition of the existing truck, private tow
trucks are often employed to tow transit vehicles, at considerable expense.
11.4?.20 Acquire Misc. Support Equipment ($2,500 Total / $500 IDOT):
purchase one medium duty trailer.
The Transit System proposes to purchase a medium dury trailer to transport
passener shelters and benches, and equipment such as a small parking lot
sweeper.
