Alexander,Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: Lake Decatur Dam 2003 Annual Inspection <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing an agreement with Ashton Engineering, Inc., to <br /> conduct the Lake Decatur Dam 2003 Annual Inspection for a lump sum of$10,000. <br /> BACKGROLIND: <br /> The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Water Resources, requires an annual inspection <br /> and report submittal for the Lake Decatur dam. In order to annually obtain objective professional <br /> opinions of the condition of the dam, the City has informally rotated the inspection award among several <br /> engineering firms. Ashton Engineering is a highly experienced firm specializing in concrete dam <br /> structures, and has recently completed a small project for the City. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: <br /> None foreseen. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: <br /> Minnesota Power and Illinois-American Water Company have reported to City staff that they were quite <br /> satisfied with the engineering services that Ashton Engineering had recently completed for them. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: <br /> Keith D.
