Newell,P.E., City Engineer�� SUBJECT: Street Reconstruction, City Project 2003-24 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Street Reconstruction, City Project 2003-24, to Dunn Company, as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$1,332,924.69, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The Street Reconstruction Program provides a new subgrade and pavement surface in curbed or non-curbed streets or alleys having an existing asphalt pavement with no remaining useful life or that suffer a significant loss of structural capacity. Streets proposed for this project have existing pavement that is badly deteriorated through age and use. These pavements can no longer be effectively maintained by the City's street crews. An additional goal of the project is to restore any existing curb and gutter to full function wherever possible. Street reconstruction work involves the removal of the existing street, the construction of a stabilized base course and the placement of an asphalt surface. This work is generally completed over the course of one week. A listing of the streets included in this year's reconstruction project is attached for your information. The project specifications were prepared by the Engineering Division. The project was advertised on April 9, 2003 and bids were received on Apri122, 2003. The results of the letting are as follows (bid tabulation attached): Compared to Engineer's Est.
