r . .
The low bid of Ulrich Chemical for sodium bisulfite does not meet the City of Decatur
specification. Ulrich was not able to submit documentation that the chemical they were
providing was in compliance with the ANSI-AWWA-NSF standards or that the chemical was
NSF or UL approved for potable water. Hence, ihe chemical does not meet the Illinois EPA
requirement for being used as a drinking water additive.
The second low bidder for sodium bisulfite, Alexander Chemical meets the City of Decatur
specifications in this area.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management requested the chemicals and also
wrote the bid specifications. They recommend approval of bids.
STAFF REFERENCE: Rob Shirley, Water Production Manager 424-2866, Keith Alexander,
Director of Water Management 424-2863. Keith Alexander will be at the council meeting to
answer any questions the council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: Water Management Fund.
