oFFc,
V
, CITY OF DECATUR ILLINOIS
- #1 GARY K. ANDERSON PLAZA DECATUR, ILLINOIS 62523-1196
'LINOS
November 22, 2002
Resident
Subject: Sump Pumps
Dear Cresthaven Park Resident:
The City recently completed a study of the sanitary sewers serving the Cresthaven Park
Subdivision. The study found strong indications that there are sump pumps in this subdivision
that are draining to the City's sanitary sewer. In accordance with the City Code, it is illegal to
discharge sump pump drainage in to the sanitary sewer. The continuing discharge of sump pump
drainage into the sanitary sewer is a contributor to sanitary sewer overflows that are occurring
with some regularity along Wolf Road and Shadow Lane. Sanitary sewer overflows discharge
sewage into the area streets, yards, homes and creeks.
It is best if sump pumps drain to storm drain lines. This reduces the burden on sanitary
sewers and eliminates the nuisances that occur when sump pumps discharge into streets or yards.
Since storm drain lines are not readily accessible to the whoe neighborhood, the City proposes to
construct sump pump drain lines in Cresthaven Park to convey sump pump drainage to area
storm drains. In order to design the proposed drain line, City Engineering needs to know which
homes have sump pumps. We ask that you fill out and return the reply section on page two of
this letter. A self addressed stamped envelope is enclosed for your use. At this time, we are not
asking you to identify where your sump pump drains.
America's Agribusiness Center
