CITY OF DECATUR
Backup Radio Communications System
With the many agencies and public services supported by the existing City of Decatur
Trunked Radio System it becomes vital to have an emergency backup plan in place.
BARBECK Communications is please to participate in this process, by providing The
City of Decatur with a quotation for a backup radio system.
We are recommending the City install a separate, stand alone backup trunked system.
This system would contain the same basic components as the existing system at MSC
only be located at the County Building. The sixth floor of the County Building has
already been prepared to house such a system, and was the sight for the main transmitter
when the city operated on 460.100Mhz. The County Building site would also be
desirable since no microwave or wire line path would be required to support this site,
therefore providing a backup plan in the event of microwave path failure.
With this proposed plan, BARBECK would provide the city with reconditioned Motorola
6809 Controllers and Motorola MSF5000 repeater stations. These controllers and
repeater stations are the same vintage as what is in service at MSC and will be warranted
bv BARBECK for a period of one full year from the date of svstem acceptance
BARBECK Communications will design and install a cut over plan for changing from
the main to the standby system. All cabling and cross connections will be made to
interface the standby system with the 911-dispatch center providing for a smooth change
over. BARBECK will also remove any unneeded antennas and hardware from the
County Building during this project.
Once again, thank you for allowing BARBECK Communications to serve the City of
Decatur.
