It was not known at that time exactly how much
effort would be required to determine the feasibility of City staff performing dredging
operations, assist City staff prepare dredging specifications, and assist with the evaluation of
dredge equipment bids.
Chastain had originally anticipated some involvement with these items and had allocated
$11,412 to provide technical assistance for dredge equipment and training. The majority of this
work has been performed by Don Searles of Dredging Specialists, Inc., at a cost to date of
approximately $79,266. Chastain also coordinated subconsultants, performed dredging studies
for the lake, and traveled to various sites to investigate dredge equipment at the recommendation
of the City. Their cost to date for performing these services is approximately $24,734.
Additionally, Council recently authorized a contract with Koester Contracting Corporation for
the construction of the sediment storage and mobilization/operation sites. The original
agreement with Chastain did not include construction administration, layout, and observation
services for this construction, which Supplemental Agreement No. 2 will provide. Therefore,
staff is recommending the approval of Supplemental Agreement No. 2 at a cost not to exceed
$92,588.
