Newell, P.E., City Enginee��,� <br /> SUBJECT: Parking Garage C Lighting Upgrade, City Project 9736 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for the Parking Garage C Lighting Upgrade, City Project 9736, to Bodine Electric of <br /> Decatur, a division of Rathje Enterprises, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder with a base bid <br /> amount of$66,598.00 and an additional bid alternate of$1,466.00 for a total contract price of <br /> $68,064.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The existing lighting for the lower level of Garage C (northeast corner of East Wood and South <br /> Franklin) is the original lighting that was installed in the late 1960's when the garage was <br /> constructed. The current lighting consists of fluorescent lights, which are very high maintenance <br /> fixtures that do not provide sufficient lighting based upon today's standards. <br /> The base bid for the contract is to remove and replace all of the existing light fixtures on the <br /> lower level of the Garage and the existing lighting fixtures under the canopy on the upper level. <br /> The bid alternate is to remove and replace lighting fixtures in the stairwells of the Garage. <br /> Project plans and specifications were prepared by Blank, Wesselink, Cook & Associates, Inc., in <br /> consultation with City Engineering. The project was advertised August 21, 2002, and bids were <br /> opened on September 9, 2002.
