'
• Utilize an ordinance that regulates sites under development and prevents soil erosion and
sedimentation offsite. The ordinances would provide criteria for plan development, site design
requirements, and practice maintenance. Encourage the continued use of the local SWCD and NRCS
trained personnel in the development of erosion control plans.
• Use Best Management Practices (BMPs)on construction sites and developing areas as identified in '
the Illinois Urban Manua1. '
• Treat erosion occurring on land with slopes greater than 5%and adjacent to the creek or a tributary. I'
These areas have a higher potential for erosion than less sloping ground, as well as the possibility to
erode into the creek.
• Demonstrate conservation practices on highly visible sites. These areas become examples of
conservation on the land and point out how effective local efforts have been. Local, state or federal
cost share dollars may be available for these installation of these practices.
Monitor areas where significant land use changes are anticipated for increased erosion and sediment
rates.
• Utilize filter and buffer strips on areas next to bodies of water and drainageways that do not currently
have adequate buffers.
Conservation Practices Practice needs identified from 14 Estimatioof practice" i
I 160 acre sampling sites needs for watershed
i Grass Watenvay 11975 feet or 11 acres 60,984 feet or 56 acres
I Terraces ; 2500 feet  6600 feet ;
; WASCOB '; 6 WASCOBs i 16 WASCOBs
'; Grade Stabilization Structure 7 stnctures I 31 structures
; Mulch-till ' 319 acres i 2850 acres
 No-till ! 232 acres '; 2050 acres i
i Buffer siri s I 12 acres 200 acres
3treambank Stabilizalion on ; 770 feet 8400 feet
severe sites
OS/31/02 5
