Protect Natural Wetlands from Stormwater
Preserve and enhance high qualitnatural wetlands. These unique communities and resources should not
be designed to receive stormwater. Use onl_y constructed or artificial wetlands to filter waters and manage
stormwater.
Maintain Creek Channel Clear of Obstructions
Tree and plant debris in the creek is a natural occurrence in a stream svstem. The material provides
habitat for wildlife and should be left whenever possible. However, accumulations of debris can result in
blockages and problems «ith creek flow. The Stream Obstruction Removal Guidelines instructs that
material be removed in an environmentallsound manner in order to maintain the stream svstem. Consult
this reference for further information.
Reduce Nutrients to Receiving Waters
1. Apply N-P-K in accordanceith University of Illinois Agronomy Handbook. The most effective
method for reducing nitrate loading to water sources is to reduce the amount of fertilizer applied.
2. Establish wetlands or buffer strips to remove nitrates.
3. Combine conservation tillage practices with nutrient ma.nagemeirt.
----------------------- -
Conservation Practices Estimation of practice
____________ ! needs for watershed !
Nutrient Management 10.000 acres I
Farm Tiles
Stormwater flow from developments should be denied from outleting through existing farm tiles.
