Mass Transit Memorandum
No. 071702-1
July 17, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Paul McChancy, Mass Transit AdministratoY;
SUBJECT: IDOT Capital Assistance Grant
SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council approve a Resolution to authorize
RECOMMENDATION: the filing of an application for IDOT capital assistance in the
amount of$21,000 to match federal funding which has already
been awarded.
BACKGROUND: Decatur has applied for and been awarded Federal Transit
Administration (FTA) funding for operating assistance and for
capital projects. That capital assistance included funds to complete
the construction of the multi-modal transportation facility, and the
two projects shown on the attached sheet. The proposed IDOT
funding would match the federal funding awarded for these two
projects. (It would not match FTA funding for the multi-modal
transportation facility.) With the addition of IDOT funds, both
projects would be completed without using any City funds.
POTENTIAL A public hearing was held to discuss the FTA grant application.
.OBJECTION: No negative comments were received. There is no known or
expected objection to this grant application.
INPUT FROM James Gillum, Maintenance Superintendent, DPTS
OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McCiancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME FTA capital assistance funds require a 20% loal or state match.
IMPLICATIONS: The proposed $21,000 State grant would be used to match the
federal funds already awarded to Decatur for the two projects listed.
No City funds would be required. These projects are in the current
City budget and are included in the Annual Element of the current
Transportation Improvement Program for the Decatur urbanized
area.
