CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND NSTIFICATION
Following is a description and justification for both projects:
11.42.06 Acquire Shop Equipment($ 35,000): purchase and install in-ground bus lift.
Proposed for purchase is one in-ground bus lift to be used with the new style
"low-floor"buses that the City acquired in 2001. While the bus lift can be used
for any style of bus, the bus lift is required for the low-floor buses because of their
lower ground clearance. The standard floor jacks will not work on the low-floor
buses. Installing the bus lift will allow the maintenance department to do more
types of repairs than they are now able to do, and will eliminate the need to tow
buses to an outside shop for repairs.
' ,
11.44.02 RehablRenovate Maintenance Facility($ 70,000): replace all bus barn overhead
doors and motors.
The bus barn is over 20 years old, and the overhead doors and motors need to be
replaced. The City paid over$8,000 in FY-01 and FY-02 for service and repairs
to these doors. We have been advised that the doors and motors are in urgent
need of replacement, and that the annual cost of repairs will likely go up
significantly as the doors get older.
1 '
