, . , .
PART III
SCOPE OF WORK
City of Decatur
02-120762
FY'02
Section 1. Public Benefit
1.1 The Grantee is a governmental entity. Funds from this grant will be applied to the
cost of construction of a new fountain in Decatur's downtown Central Park. The old
fountain, which has been in place since the late 1800s, has become an eyesore and
almost impossible to maintain.
1.2 The Decatur Tribune newspaper sought input from the residents of the community
•on what kind of fountain they wanted in the park. Three local architectural firms
donated their services for the design work and a committee of local business and civic
leaders then selected one of the proposals. Private donations have contributed nearly
$150;000 so far and the City of Decatur will provide the needed sewer work, demolition
of the old fountain, sidewalk repair/replacement, etc.
1.3 The new Central Park fountain will offer three levels of bowls including the basin,
with spraying water, waterfalls, greenery and illumination at night. Benches will face the
fountain, which will create a beautiful environment in conjunction with the band shell
and historic transfer house, which are located at the east and west ends of the park.
1.4 The completion of the new fountain in early or midsummer will restore beauty to the
downtown park that has been missing for several years. It will also serve to enhance
downtown Decatur's image and make it an area that will once again attract people while
presenting a positive image to potential business visitors and tourists.
Section 2. Grant Tasks
2.1 The Grantee will use Grant Funds in accordance with Part I, Budget.
