Alexander,Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> South Water Treatment Plant Office and Laboratory Addition- City Project 2000-31 <br /> Amendment No. 1 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> City staff recommends Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing Amendment No. 1 to <br /> the Design Professional Service Agreement between the City and Black & Veatch Corporation <br /> for a lump sum fee of$13,200. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Since September 11, 2001 there has been a nationwide effort to dramatically improve the security <br /> of drinking water systems. The original design services agreement for this project, dated <br /> September 4, 2001, did not anticipate the need for these security measures: <br /> • Remote controlled driveway security gates with surveillance cameras, monitors and <br /> keypad entry systems. <br /> • Fencing modifications due to the security gate installations. <br /> • Front office door security camera, monitors and keypad entry system. <br /> An amendment to the original agreement is required in order for Black & Veatch to be <br /> compensated for these additional security design services. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: <br /> None foreseen. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: <br /> Black&Veatch, Inc. and numerous City staff. <br />
