Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 041802-1 <br /> April 18, 2002 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garm City Manager <br /> Paul McCha y, Mass Transit Administrator�,..�,� <br /> ! <br /> SUBJECT: Purchase Or er for Bus Stop Signs and Sign Posts <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution awarding a <br /> RECOMMENDATI <br /> ON: purchase order for bus stop signs and sign posts to the low bidder, <br /> Vulcan Signs. <br /> BACKGROUND: Staff advertised for bids for the purchase of bus stop signs and <br /> sign posts. A formal bid opening was held on April 15, 2002. As <br /> shown on the attached Tabulation of Bids, three firms submitted <br /> bids. The lowest bidder was Vulcan Signs (Foley, Alabama) with <br /> a bid of $5,799.20. The next lowest bidder was Hall Signs <br /> (Bloomington, Indiana)with a bid of$6,693.20. <br /> Staff has examined the bids and determined that all bids meet the <br /> minimum specifications for the signs and sign posts, and that the <br /> bids meet all of the other requirements of the bidding process. <br /> Transit has previously purchased signs frorn Vulcan Signs, and <br /> recommends them as a qualified and responsible firm. Staff finds <br /> that the lowest bidder is capable of, and competent to perform the <br /> work required. <br /> POTENTIAL No known objection to awarding the purchase order to Vulcan Signs. <br /> OBJECTION: <br /> INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager <br /> OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> BUDGET/TIME Staff has already obtained state and federal grants for the purchase <br /> IMPLICATIONS: of signs and sign posts, totaling $7,200. No local funds will be <br /> required. Transit will be required to supply the labor to install <br /> these signs and posts. <br />
