DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT
Memorandum No. 2002-13
April 26, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
John A. Smith, Assistant City Manager for Public Services
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management
SUBJECT:
Replacement of Skv Electrical Cables from the South Water Treatment Plant to the Raw Water
Pump Station
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends Council approval to award a contract to the lowest qualified bidder,
Bodine Electric of Decatur, for the replacement of the electrical cables. A lump sum price not to
exceed $68,968.00.
BACKGROUND:
Electrical cables run underground and deliver all power to the Raw Water Pump Station and the
Dam. These cables are 14 years old and have been repaired in the past. Recent electrical testing
by Dynex, a firm specializing in the testing of electrical distribution systems, and Bodine Electric
has confirmed that one sof cables is unusable, and the other set has the potential to fail in the
future.
Bids were solicited and received from two Decatur firms (attached). The results of the process
are as follows:
Bidder Bid Price
Bodine Electric of Decatur $68,968
Modern Electric Company $71,800
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS:
None foreseen, under the circumstances.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Bodine Electric
Modern Electric
Dynex
