SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs, City Project 2002-18, State Section 02-00218-00-RP SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the allocation of$1,000,000 in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs, City Project 2002-18, State Section 02-00218-00-RP, and that the Mayor by authorized to sign said resolution, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The MFT funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The City is required to adopt a resolution specifying the allocation of MFT funds to their intended proj ect. The resolution authorizes the allocation of $1,000,000 in MFT funds for the City's proposed Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs project. This proposed work consists of removing and replacing failed concrete pavement joints. In recent years it has been the City's desire to get a head start on Motor Fuel Tax funded construction projects by awarding the projects in mid to late April thereby providing an excellent opportunity to receive favorable bids and an early construction start. The City has generally been comfortable moving forward with Motor Fuel Tax funded projects prior to or in conjunction with finalization of the City budget. The attached resolution authorizes City staff to prepare a project and solicit bids in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
