' t
f
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2002-03
January 15, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Stephen Swanson, P.E.,Director of Engineering & Infrastructure
, Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Annual Sewer Television Inspection Program Contract Amendment
City Project 2001-19
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an
increase to the contract amount with Tele Scan, Inc., to continue televising up to an additional
80,000 feet of sanitary sewer for the Annual Sewer Television Inspection Contract, City Project
2001-19. This resolution will increase the contract amount by $100,000, to a final authorized
amount of$250,000, and authorize the Mayor to execute the amendment to the contract, and the
City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
On May 7, 2001, City Council awarded a contract to Tele Scan, Inc., for Annual Sewer
Television Inspection. The contract authorized the inspection of approximately 120,000 feet of
the City's sanitary system at a cost of$150,000.
Tele Scan will be completing the original project within the next few weeks. The work to date
has proven beneficial in identifying problems and in cataloging the condition of pipes within the
system. In an effort to get a grasp on major problems before they surface, it is necessary to
continue the program. Additionally, it is staff s desire to televise the sewers running under the
streets selected for the FY 2002-2003 paving project in order to flag underground problems
before a major investment is made on the pavement.
I
