Berard, Civil Enginner II � SUBJECT: Water Main Extension Project, City Project 2001-01 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Water Main Extension Project, City Project 2001-01, to Bodine Services, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$254,251.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The City's Annual Water Main Extension Program involves the installation of new water mains to extend the City's water distribution system and improve the system's reliability and service. This involves the installation of new mains to create connections between existing mains minimizing the possibility of customers being without water in the event of a water main break or temporary shutdown during water main maintenance work. In addition, the program extends the distribution system to serve new customers that have requested service or to facilitate the accessibility to the City's water distribution system by future developments. New customers are evaluated on an economic return basis to insure the City realizes a return on its investment. This year's program includes three extensions as described here below: 1) State Route 48 and Forest Crest Road. This extension will extend the distribution system to new customers and future developments. 2) Baltimore Avenue. This extension will create a connection between existing water mains. ' 3) La.kewood Avenue. This extension will extend the distribution to new customers.
