Bragg, AICP,Planne� <br /> SUBJECT: Illinois Historic Preservation Agency Grant Application -Monument Restoration �I <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the resolution II�� <br /> authorizing the grant application for the restoration of the Lincoln the Lawyer and Macon ' <br /> County's First Courthouse monuments located on Lincoln Square in Downtown Decatur. ' <br /> BACKGROUND: Upon City Council approval, the attached resolutions will authorize the <br /> filing of a United States Department of the Interior Historic Preservation Grants-in-Aid (60/40 � <br /> match) with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA). As a Certified Local Government ' <br /> (CLG) city with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the City is qualified to apply for <br /> Preservation Funds. This grant would partially fund the restoration of two of Decatur's <br /> monuments that were recently assessed for conservation by Andrzej Dajnowski of Conservation <br /> of Sculpture and Objects Studio, Chicago. The two monuments identified in this grant applica- <br /> tion are eligible for Department of Interior grant funds because they are located within a National <br /> Register Historic District. No additional Decatur monuments are located within a designated <br /> National Register District. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objectors to the grant application. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None <br /> STAFF REFERENCES: If Council members have questions they may contact Dane Bragg at <br /> 424-2781 or e-mail dbrag�(�a,decaturnet.org. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: The proposed total budget for the restoration is $4,400. <br /> The federal match for the grant is $2,640; the City match is $1,760 and is budgeted in the HASC <br /> (CDBG funded)budget.
