Perry,Purchasing Supervisor.'Q'
SUBJECT: Bids for roof replacement
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Craftmasters,
Inc. to furnish one (1) Firestone roof replacement for Fire Station #6 located at 1880 Route 51
South.
BACKGROUND: This roof system will replace the original roof that was installed when the
station was built in 1964. The low bid of D & O is not responsive. D & O submitted their bid
for a Firestone roofing system. D & O is not a licensed Firestone roofing contractor and as such
would not be able to supply the manufacturer's warranty on the project.
The second low bid of Craftmasters is responsive. They are licensed contractors for Firestone
and Carlisle roofing systems. They will be installing a Firestone roofing system with a 20 year
manufacturer's warranty.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The roof replacement was requested by the Fire
Department and they wrote the bid specifications.
STAFF REFERENCE: Jerry Taylor, Acting Fire Chief 424-2811 and James Gillen, Battalion
Chief 424-2811 will be at the council meeting to answer any questions the council may have
about this purchase.
BUDGET: $10,000 from Public Works capital budget.
18 750 from Fire Department operating budget.
$28,750 Total
