Swanson, P.E., Director of Engineering & Infrastructure°
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer,,
SUBJECT: Rehabilitation of the 25th Street Sanitary Sewer, City Project 2000-30
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
An item on the agenda for the September 4, 2001, City Council Meeting is the authorization of
an agreement for design services with Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski & Associates, Inc. (BGM) for a
fee not to exceed $19,000 to prepare a design concept report for the proposed Rehabilitation of
the 25th Street Sanitary Sewer.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached agreement.
BACKGROUND:
The 25th Street Sanitary Sewer is a 36 inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe that originates at
the intersection of 25th and Eldorado, near the entrance to Staley's, and extends southerly to its
outfall into the City's Southeast interceptor at the intersection of 16th Street and Lake Shore
Drive, as shown on the attached location map. This sanitary sewer carries a significant flow from
Staley's in addition to draining the sewage and some storm water from the residential areas it
travels through.
A televised inspection was performed on the 25th Street sewer in 1999. The inspection revealed
deterioration present throughout the pipe with up to %2 of the pipe eroded away at various
locations.
City staff proposes to have BGM perform an indepth review of the televised inspection along
with a close inspection of each manhole and selected locations of the pipe. They will research
the various rehabilitation options available to restore the structural integrity of the sewer.
