Quandt, E.I.T., Civil Engineer I <br /> �' <br /> SUBJECT: Police Parking Lot Retaining Wall, City Project 2001-15 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for the Police Parking Lot Retaining Wall, City Project 2001-15, to Otto Baum <br /> Company Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$16,429.50, and that the Mayor <br /> be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The existing block retaining wall extends only a portion of the westerly edge of the parking lot. <br /> The remainder of the unreinforced wall is continuing to deteriorate. This project will extend the <br /> block retaining wall to the far north end of the parking lot, thereby reinforcing the deteriorating <br /> portion of the wall. <br /> Project plans and specifications were prepared by City staff. The project was advertised August <br /> 1, 2001, and bids were opened on August 20, 2001. The results for the letting are as follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $60,245.00 ----- <br /> Otto Baum Company, Inc. $16,429.50 (72.73%) <br /> Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $20,202.00 (66.47%) <br /> Bodine Services, Inc. $23,989.00 (60.18%) <br /> Mid-States General Mechanical $32,452.00 (46.13%) <br /> Staff recommends that the Council accept the low bid for$16,429.00. <br />
