+ .
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2001- 42
July 16, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Stephen P. Swanson, P.E., Director of Engineering & Infrastructu e -
 a hew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer
,:`' is G. Quandt, E.I.T., Civil Engineer I
SUBJECT: Macon Resources Ditch Rehabilitation, City Project 2001-13
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for Macon Resources Ditch Rehabilitation, City Project 2001-13, to Hutchens
Bulldozing, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of $19,962.10, and that the
Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
Businesses in the area lying generally south of Hubbard Drive and west of Woodford Street (refer
to attached location map) have complained in the past about poor storm drainage and storm ',
detention area damage. This damage is generally the result of a poorly defined storm water ',
drainage ditch, and general debris collected by the uncontrolled growth of trees and brush in the '
City's drainage easement. '
The City drainage way servicing the south portion of the Park 101 industrial site has eroded a
path into the Macon Resources detention pond. This has resulted in the storm flows from the
south portion of the development flowing through private property. This project will do
significant tree and brush removal, redefine a drainage ditch within the City drainage easement
and repair scour damage to the Macon Resources detention pond.
The proj ect plans and specifications were prepared by the Engineering Division. The proj ect
was advertised June 20, 2001, and bids were opened on July 9, 2001. The results for the letting
are as follows:
