Mass Transit Memorandum
No. 061501-2
June 15,2001
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garm ity Manager
Paul McCh , Mass Transit Administrator
SUBJECT: Amendmen of State Operating Assistance Grant for FY-2001
Grant#OP- 1-08-IL, Contract#3073, Amendment#1
SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution approving an
RECOMMENDATION: amendment of the State Operating Assistance Grant for FY-2001
BACKGROUND: The Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT)has awarded an
Operating Assistance Grant to the Decatur Public Transit System
to reimburse the City for up to 55% of the Transit System's
operating expenses. The maximum amount of that grant was
$1,452,609, and it covers the state's fiscal year, from July l, 2000
through June 30, 2001. Based on the expenditures through April of
this year, staff submitted a revised estimate of expenditures for the
year, and a request that the maximum amount of reimbursement
under this grant be increased by $83,753, to $1,536,362. The
increase would ensure that City funds are not required to offset the
Transit System's operating deficit for the year. IDOT has
approved staff's request, but now requires a formal resolution of
City Council to award the increase.
POTENTIAL No known objection to this Agreement.
OBJECTION:
INPUT FROM John Marrella, Illinois Department of Transportation
OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME The proposed grant contract amendment would increase the amount
IMPLICATIONS: of state funds available to the City for Transit operating costs. The
amendment would increase the maaimum amount of IDOT funds
by $83,753. No additional City funds are required. ,
