Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 061201-3 <br /> June 12,2001 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager <br /> Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator��� <br /> l <br /> SUBJECT: Grant Application for Purchase of Two Wheelchair Lift Equipped Vans <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution applying for a <br /> RECOMMENDATION: joint State- Federal grant for the purchase of two raised-roof <br /> wheelchair lift equipped vans. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT),through the <br /> Federal Transit Administration(FTA),has allocated$160,000 to <br /> the City of Decatur for the purchase of two raised-roof, wheelchair <br /> left equipped vans. IDOT now requires that the City submit a <br /> formal grant application for the award of the funds. These vans <br /> would be used to supplement the four vans currently operated by <br /> the Public Transit System. These vans are used to transport the <br /> handicapped and disabled, as a complementary service to the <br /> normal fixed route bus service. The IDOT and FTA funds would <br /> pay for 100% of the cost of these vehicles. No City funds would <br /> be required. Advertisement for bids for the purchase of the two <br /> vans will follow the award of the grant. <br /> POTENTIAL No known objection to this Agreement. <br /> OBJECTION: <br /> INPUT FROM Nicholas Haddad, Illinois Deparhnent of Transportation <br /> OTHER SOURCES: <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> BUDGET/TIME The FTA and IDOT grant will pay for 100%of the cost of the <br /> IMPLICATIONS: two vans. No City funds are required. <br />
