SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council approve an amendment of the RECOMMENDATION: approved agreement with Decatur Taxi, Inc., concerning service provided to the Decatur Public Transit System under its Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA) service program. The amendment would implement the fare increase proposed by the company, raising the per mile rate charged the Transit System from $1.00 to $1.15 per mile. BACKGROUND: The City has contracts with both local cab companies, Decatur Taxi and Decatur Pride Checker Cab, to provide rides subsidized by the Transit System for the disabledlhandicapped under the ADA program. Both contracts specified the following rates: $1.50 for the first 1/1 Oth mile plus $1.00 per mile thereafter. In October, 2000,both companies requested and received a fare increase raising the rate for the first 1/lOth mile from $1.50 to $2.00. That represents about a 11.9% increase in total fares received by each company under this contract. At that time the rate per mile did not change. Mr. Carey is now requesting that the per mile rate paid to Decatur Taxi be increased to $1.15, which is about an 8.5% increase in the average trip fare. (Continued on next page.) STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator BUDGET/TIME The proposed increase would cost the City about$3,410 per year IMPLICATIONS: for Decatur Taxi, or about $12,345 per year if the increase were applied to both cab companies. This would not represent a significant increase in Transit's annual budget.
