Perry,Purchasing Supervisor 1Q <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for water treatment chemicals. <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contracts to the low <br /> bidders listed on Exhibit A for each of the water treatment chemicals for May 1, 2001 - April 30, <br /> 2003. <br /> BACKGROUND: The low bidders have submitted documentation that the chemicals they <br /> provide are in compliance with the ANSI-AWWA-NSF standards, and that all chemicals are <br /> NSF or UL approved for potable water. <br /> The following is a list of chemicals and how they are used in the water purification process: <br /> Alum -to coagulate; clarifying agent <br /> Carbon -used for taste and odor control; control of atrazine <br /> Carbon Dioxide - lower the pH level; due to lime <br /> Chlorine - disinfectant; required by law <br /> Lime - softening agent <br /> Polymer -used as coagulant; lowers turbidity <br /> Potassium Permanganate - used for taste and odor control <br /> Sodium Chlorite - disinfectant; used for taste and odor control <br /> Sodium Hexametaphosphate -used to counteract lime,prevents scaling; filter protection <br /> Sodium Silicofluoride - reduces cavities; required by law <br /> Hydrofluosilicic Acid - reduces cavities; required by law <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None. <br />
