� � <br /> Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 032801-1 <br /> March 28, 2001 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garm ity Manager <br /> Paul McCh , Mass Transit Administrator� <br /> SUBJECT: Grant Agreement for IDOT Mass Transit Operating Assistance <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution to execute an <br /> RECOMMENDATION: agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for mass <br /> transit operating assistance in the amount of$1,452,609 for <br /> FY-2001. <br /> BACKGROUND: Each year the Illinois Deparhnent of Transportation (IDOT) <br /> provides grant assistance to offset part of the cost of operating the <br /> Decatur Public Transit System. On August 11, 2000 an application <br /> was submitted to IDOT requesting a grant of$1,350,838 for state <br /> Fiscal Year 2001. On December 8, 2000 an amended application <br /> was submitted to IDOT requesting a grant of $1,452,609 for <br /> FY-2001, reflecting the recent, significant fuel cost increases. The <br /> attached agreement would award Decatur an operating assistance <br /> grant of$1,452,609, or not to exceed 55% of the eligible transit <br /> operating expenses. <br /> POTENTIAL No known objection to this project. <br /> OBJECTION: <br /> INPUT FROM Division of Public Transportation, <br /> OTHER SOURCES: Illinois Department of Transportation <br /> I STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> BUDGET/TIME This grant will reimburse Decatur for 55%of its eligible transit <br /> IMPLICATIONS: operating expenses. The remaining 45%will be paid through an <br /> operating grant from the Federal Transit Administration, fares and <br /> other revenues generated by the transit system, and local funds. <br /> The term of this grant agreement is state Fiscal Year 2001. <br />
