Swanson,P.E., Director of E & I L'A
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City EngineerGl/
William A. Ratekin,Assistant City Engineer '
SUBJECT: FY 2001-2002 Motor Fuel Tax Resolution '
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached " Resolution for
Maintenance of Streets and Highways By Municipality Under the Illinois Highway Code"
designating $2,854,544.50 of the City's MFT funds for the purpose of maintaining City streets,
and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolution.
BACKGROUND:
The Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the
Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The local agency is required to adopt a resolution
establishing a scope of work for the maintenance work to be paid for with MFT funds and
provide an estimate of the anticipated maintenance costs that these funds will be dedicated
towards. Once the City has adopted the resolution, it is forwarded on to IDOT for review and
approval. IDOT will also determine if there is adequate funding for the proposed projects.
The Engineering Division has prepared the required IDOT form for the Municipal
Estimate of Maintenance Costs. The total amount in the resolution consists of the City's planned
street maintenance ($2,792,544.50), miscellaneous traffic signal improvements ($40,000) and
U. S. Highway 36 west street lighting ($22,000). These proposed expenditures are consistent
with the proposed City Budget and will be largely dedicated toward the City's annual milling and
rehabilitation project aimed at improving the City's street system.
