Newell, P.E., City Engineer i�'� SUBJECT: MFT Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Funds for the City's Portion of the Improvement of U.S. Route 51 Business and IL 105 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the allocation of MFT funds to pay the City's portion of costs associated with the proposed improvement of U.S Route 51 on the south side of Decatur. BACKGROUND: An item on the agenda for the March 19, 2001, City Council meeting is a resolution authorizing the allocation of funds from the City's Motor Fuel Tax Fund to pay the City's portion of the costs for construction of the proposed improvements as described in Agreement No. JN-500004 with the State of Illinois acting through its Department of Transportation. This agreement between the City of Decatur and the State of Illinois covers the proposed improvement of U.S. Route 51 (Business) on the south side of the City, including new traffic signals at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive/Lake Shore Drive (IL Rt. 105) and the modernization of the traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. Rt. 51 / lst Drive. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) requires a resolution specifically authorizing the expenditure of funds from the City's Motor Fuel Tax Fund. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
