COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#O1 - 17
February 20, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Beth Couter, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor
SUBJECT: Bids to upgrade inground automotive lift at Municipal Service Center.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding bid to Automotive
Equipment Sales, Inc. for one (1) 2001 Rotary FM l OMLSPL/ROT 575 to upgrade inground
automotive lift.
BACKGROUND: The lift currently in use has a capacity of 54,000 pounds. Newer fire
apparatus requires a lift with higher weight capacity and longer wheel base.
The bid of Illinois Oil Marketing and the alternate bid of Automotive Equipment Sales, Inc. do
not meet City of Decatur specifications. The City of Decatur requires the lift to have capacity of
80,000 pounds. These two lifts only have a capacity of 72,000 pounds.
The third low bid of Automotive Equipment Sales, Inc. meets City of Decatur specifications.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Fleet Maintenance wrote specifications and recommends
the award.
STAFF REFERENCE: Tom Serfass, Fleet Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance 875-5718 and
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor 424-2762.
BUDGET: $35,905.00 from Fleet Maintenance Fund.
