` , r
, ' , •
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2003-34
June 23, 2003
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
Stephen Swanson,Director of Engineering& Infrastructure f
Matthew C. Newell, City Engineer
SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing a Winter No Parking Zone on Medial Drive Between
Imboden Drive and U.S. Route 51
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance.
BACKGROUND:
At the June 2003 meeting of the Traffic and Parking Commission, the Commission approved a
request from City staff to recommend that the City Council authorize a Winter No Parking Zone
on Medial Drive. This recommendation is aimed at improving the City's ability to perform snow
removal operations on Medial Drive. Medial Drive is a narrow street that allows parking. Snow
plows have difficulty plowing snow on the street when parking is in place. A winter no parking
zone enables the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure to order parked vehicles off of the
street during snow removal operations.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION:
Letters were sent to each Medial Drive resident informing them of the Traffic and Parking
Commission meeting and of stafs recommendations. No objections were received from area
residents. No obj ections are anticipated.
