Traffic & Parking Minutes (continued) <br /> January 8, 2003 <br /> Mr. Flynn stated that he understood that the Police Department did not want 18 wheelers going <br /> through residential neighborhoods. However, the trucks from Hogan Grain will be going only <br /> one (1) mile down Martin Luther King and will not be able to get up much speed and would be <br /> traveling slowly. Mr. Flynn again requested that if Option 1 could be tried with a 90 day order <br /> from the Police Chief and if other trucks abused the option, then it could be voided. <br /> Mr. Newell stated that he had spoken with committee member April Veteto and she stated to him <br /> that she would vote against allowing either Option that would allow truck traffic in the <br /> residential areas. <br /> A proposal was made to try the Option 1 Route and if it did not wark out or if there were too <br /> many trucks using said route, that it could always be withdrawn. Mr. Flynn and Mr. Hogan were <br /> amenable to this recommendation. <br /> Mr. Newell stated that his conversations with Deputy Chief Walker indicated that the Police <br /> Chief would rather the City Council addressed the truck route issue directly rather than using his <br /> police powers authority for 90 days. If this item is approved by the Commission, it will go <br /> directly to the City Council. <br /> Ron Ballard made a motion to grant Mr. Hogan the Option 1 route which was to designate <br /> Cantrell from Route 51 to MLK and MLK to the Hogan Grain elevatar a Class II truck route, Phil <br /> Bauer seconded. Phil Bauer, Jimmy Sober, Ron Ballard, Don Wenneker, Matt Newell and Chief <br /> Gillen voted in favor; Deputy Chief Todd Walker, and Joselyn Stewart voted against; motion <br /> carried. <br />
