HASC
July 18, 2001
Page Five
Mrs. Cross asked if there was a petition to expand the district boundaries in the future would this
same process apply. Ms. Miller stated that it would and the process would have to be gone
through again.
Ms. Miller reported that the City has sent an RFP for an Urban Corridor Plan for Route 51, Route
36 and West Main Street. The Commission will be involved as the Steering Committee on West
Main Street. The firm has not yet been chosen but information from the top two were circulated
among the Commission.
Mr. Van Steenhuyse stated that West Monroe is not included at this time. References of HOK
were checked and they were very highly praised. It is hoped this item will be placed on the City
Council agenda in the near future depending on other issues such as leaf burning.
Old Business
Committee Reports:
TIF Advisory Committee - Mrs. Cross reported that the next meeting will be held on July 25 at
the Decatur Library at 4:00 P.M. At the last meeting, the Downtown and Finance Committees
were combined as it was recognized that their goals overlap. The Aesthetics Committee is
beginning their work and will have a report at the next meeting.
Newsletter- Ms. Miller reported that there are numerous articles for the newsletter. The written
reports from the Awards Program should be included as well; those can be faxed, mailed or
eMailed to Ms. Miller. Other articles could be on the Macon Place Historic District or the West
End Survey. Mrs. Cross will write an article on the Roosevelt Junior High School National
Register of Historic Places Registration.
Old House Workshop -A committee meeting was set for July 31 at Central Park West at 12:00
Noon.
Walking Tour Brochure - Ms. Miller reported that she would call Mrs. Kunzeman to set a
committee meeting date and inform the committee members. After speaking with the West End
Neighborhood Association(WENA), it was determined that it would be wiser to include the west
end after the nomination is listed and contributing structures are noted. At that time,WENA
would have their own walking tour.
Mr. Van Steenhuyse suggested a tour that would include Millikin. Mr. Butterick accepted this
assignment.
Ms. Miller stated that a Millikin bus tour was scheduled on August 23 for new students. The
details at this time are not clear. Mr. Atwater will follow up.
