MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION Wednesday, February 14, 2001 Engineering&Infrastructure Conference Room Third Floar, Civic Center The February 14, 2001, meeting of the Traffic and Parking Commission was called to order at 4:01 p.m., Engineering and Infrastructure Conference Room, third floor, Civic Center, by Chairman Glen Nordholm, who determined a quorum present. Members Present: Citizens: Glen Nordholm, Ron Ballard Staff: Matthew Newell, Bill Ratekin, Police Commander Richard Ryan, Fire Battalion Chief James Gillen, Joselyn Stewart Other Staff Present: Sharon Schneider Nordholm opened the meeting with an introduction of new staff inember Bill Ratekin and introduced Sharon Schneider, who replaced Cathy Kunzeman, as taker of the minutes of the meeting. ITEM# 1 Staff request for stop signs and the removal of existing yield signs at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Silas Street Matt Newell advised that he had reviewed the accident and traffic reports at this intersection and there does not appear to be sufficient traffic control to effectively assign right of way. Staff has recommended that the yield signs regulating north-south traffic be removed and replaced with stop signs regulating east-west traffic. Matt stated that this request is made in the interest of public safety It was moved and seconded(Ryan/Gillen) to accept staff recommendations that the yield signs be removed and stop signs reinstalled at the intersection of Lincoln and Silas streets. There being no opposition, the motion carried. Other Business: Discussion was held regarding the removal of parking spaces for downtown employees in the Public Building Commission lot on E. Washington Street and the lack of parking for employees. Recommendation was made that city staff study the possibility of angled parking on Washington Street to accommodate downtown employees. This recommendation will be reviewed.
