ECONOMIC AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
No. 00-181
November 29, 2000
TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and City Council Members
FROM: Steve Garm ity Manager
A. J. Krieg r, ssistant City Manager
Steve Van St enhuyse,AICP, Planning Manag
Kathy J. Mil er,AICP,Planner.
SUBJECT: Annexation of the premises commonly known as 4550 East Lakewood Avenue
A valid petition seeking annexation of the subject premises has been filed with the City Clerk's
Office. Containing 0.186 acres, the area in question is currently developed with a single family
dwelling. The reason for requesting annexation is to obtain city water to serve the existing
dwelling. The surrounding area is zoned R-1 Single-Family Residence District to the east, R-3
Single-Family Residence District to the south and developed as such; properties to the north and
east are in the County. When annexed the area will come into the city as R-1 Single Family
Residence District.
The following information is relative to the areas in question:
1. The parcel contains a single family structure.
2. City water is located adjacent to the tract at Lakewood Avenue.
3. The existing residence is served by an individual septic system
approved by the Public Health Department. Sanitary sewer is located
adjacent to the property at Lakewood Avenue.
4. The average fire response time is 8 minutes. Decatur is the Fire Protection
District.
5. Lakewood Avenue is seal treated and is maintained by the City of Decatur.
6. Additional annual revenue of approximately$429.84 would become available
from the combined total real estate ($230.18), motor fuel ($87.28) and state
income taxes($112.38) from the property.
Staff is of the opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of the
corporate limits; staff recommends approval of the petition as presented.
