EXCERPTS FROM <br /> MINUTES OF THE MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION <br /> Wednesday, October 11, 2000 <br /> ITEM#1 Request to remove parking on Wood Street between the Norfolk & Southern <br /> Railway right-of-way and Fairview Avenue. <br /> Matthew Newell advised that he was contacted by Millikin University about their concerns that <br /> parking on Wood Street blocked the view for vehicles exiting from Millikin's parking lots. They <br /> felt the street would be better served by prohibiting parking. Staff recommends that parking be <br /> removed. The new curbs were put at the same locations as the old ones. The street has <br /> continued to be the same width. <br /> Attorney Kristen Fligel of the law firm of Samuels, Miller, Schroeder, Jackson & Sly, was in <br /> attendance to represent Millikin. She added that Galen S. Woods is the only person remaining <br /> with an interest in any property on this block of Wood Street. She presented a copy of a letter <br /> from Mr. Woods stating that he is in agreement with this proposal. <br /> Newell stated that there is no parking in this area at the present time because of the Police <br /> Chief's 90-day temporary restriction. <br /> Jimmy Sober believes it works out great and there is plenty of parking in the lots. <br /> It was moved and seconded (Sober/ Wenneger) to accept staff recommendation that the parking <br /> be removed from Wood Street between the Norfolk & Southern Railroad right-of-way and <br /> Fairview Avenue. There being no one opposed, the motion carried. <br />
