Howley and City Council Members
FROM: Steve Garm City Manager
Rolanda John on, Deputy City Manager
A. J. Krieger Assistant City Manager
Amina Ever tt,Neighborhood Services anager
SUBJECT: Ordinace Designating Conservation Area
Redevelopment of the Near North area is necessary to address the housing and economic
development needs of inner city residents and the entire community. Designating the area as a
"Conservation Area"will further the efforts of the City, Decatur Housing Authority and other
stakeholders, to revitalize the area. Staff have followed the procedures as outlined in Chapter
49.1 of the City Code to achieve the designation. A Report of A Survey of Blighting Conditions
documenting the area conditions was completed and presented at a public hearing, held on June
1, 2000, during the monthly City Plan Commission meeting.
The purpose of the proposed designation is to meet the local ordinance and requirements to allow
for: 1) Acquisition by purchase, gift, condemnation or otherwise title to real property; 2)
Clearance, demolition or removal of existing buildings and structures; 3) Installation, repair,
construction, relocation of streets, utilities and site improvements essential to the preparation of
the area for redevelopment.
The required documentation is attached for your information.
