Excerpts from Plan Commission Minutes of May 4, 2000
Cal. No. 00-31 Petition of A. J. KRIEGER, Assistant City Manager, to rezone the
premises generally located north of Garver Church Road, east of Illinois
Route 48 from R-1 Single Family Residence District to M-1 Light
Industrial District.
The petitioner requests the rezoning of a 133.24 acre tract fronting Route 48 and bounded on the
north by Boyd Road and on the south by Garver Church Road. This tract does not include Dodge
City. The petitioner, on behalf of the City of Decatur, proposes to rezone this property from R-1,
Single Family Residence, to M-1, Light Industrial. The tract is illustrated on the Future Land Use
Map, a component of the Decatur comprehensive plan, as "Industrial."
This is a recently annexed parcel, and one which was annexed into the City for industrial use.
Newly annexed properties automatically enter the City with R-1 zoning unless otherwise
specified.
Staff recommends approval of the petition as proposed.
There were no objectors present.
Mr. Shampine asked if there was an annexation agreement. Mr. Krieger stated that there was and
the intention was to include the M-1 designation at the time of annexation.
It was moved and seconded (Smith/Smallwood)to forward Cal. No. 00-31 to City Council with
recommendation for approval.
Mr. 7ohn requested that the same information be provided to the Commission when a petition for
rezoning is received from staff as any other citizen. Information should contain maps, existing
zoning and other relevant materials.
Motion carried unanimously.
