COMMLJNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
No. 99-256
October 13, 1999
TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and City Council Members
FROM: Rolanda 7ohnson, City Manager
Cecil A. Collins, Jr., Director of Co unity DevelopmentlCW9
Kathy 7. Miller, AICP, Planner
SUBJECT: Street Name Change--Boiling Spring Road
The Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) is requesting that the road that runs from
Bearsdale Road east to Sands Drive be officially recognized as one name--Boiling Springs Road.
The road in question has historically been known as Boiling Springs Road. More recently, plats
of new subdivisions bordering the road were filed with the County that variously identified the
roadway as Boiling Springs Road, Riedel Avenue or Riedel Road. In Decatur, the Chubbyville
Subdivisions, show a name other than Boiling Springs.
The ETSB officially recognized the name "Boiling Springs Road" for the unincorporated area on
September 6, 1999. The ETSB respectfully asks that the Decatur City Council take similar action
for the incorporated sections of this roadway.
Copies of letters from two affected residents in Decatur supporting the name change are included
as well as a copy of the petition signed by other residents along the road.
Staff recommends approval of the name change to Boiling Springs Road.
