.
Cal. No. 99-47 Petition of CECIL A. COLLINS, JR., Director of Community
Development, to rezone the premises at 1122-1166 East Marietta Street
, and the property generally located south and east of the intersection of
Illinois and Marietta Street from R-3 Single Family Residence District to
B-1 Neighborhood Shopping District.
Mr. Forgey presented the recommendation of sta,ff:
The subject property includes a portion of the Boys' and Girls' Club. The site is currently zoned
B-1 in part and R-3 in part. The purpose of this City-initiated rezoning is to assure that the whole
property will have the same zoning classification. Esting zoning in the vicinity is mixed—there is
residential zoning to the east (R-6), north(R-6), and west (R-3), respectively; and there is M-1,
Industrial, to the south. This is a residential neighborhood, close to a park and a school. The
esting B-1 zoning on the developed part of the parcel constitutes a commercial spot zone. Staff
proposes to make the entire parcel B-1 to eliminate the esting discrepancy.
Staff recommends approval of this application as written.
Mr. John questioned why the petition stated the rezoning to be from R-3 and B-1 to O-1. Mr.
Forgey stated that staff originally proposed an O-1 zoning as that is consistent with the present
use of the property. The Director of Community Development advised that the B-1 zoning was
consistent with the surrounding uses. It was noted that the petition includes both the Decatur
Macon County Opportunities Corporation and the Boys and Girls Club.
There were no objectors present.
It was moved and seconded (John/Jacobs)to forward Cal. No. 99-47 to City Council with
recommendation for approval of B-1 zoning. Motion carried unanimously.
