Property Search
Once the need for a PCS facility is identified in a search ring, Amica studies the local zoning regulations
and consults the planning staff to determine the most appropriate zoning districts within the search area to
locate their facilities. Amica is dedicated to working with local officials to locate its facilities in locations
most appropriate to the community. The first obvious choice would be to co-locate on an existing
structure within the search ring. An investigation into co-location possibilities with WAND-TV just to the
west of the subject site revealed that potential interference with WAND's micro-wave facilities was a
problem. That would have been the ideal site. There are no other co-location opportunities within the
search ring. The proposed facility has been designed so as to accommodate future users on a co-location
basis. A thorough and responsible search has been conducted and Amica feels that the Slifer property is
appropriate and will have no negative impact in this area with regards to other communications facilities.
Once constructed,Amica will welcome other wireless users(cellular,PCS,pagers and others)to locate on
the tower thereby reducing the need for additional tower structures in the community.
Subscriber Base I
PCS communications facilities are designed to cover a relatively small geographic area, frequently a one I
to two mile radius from the site. This site in the southerly section of Decatur will enable residents and
businesses the ability to fully utilize the latest advancements in mobile communications and to benefit
from the enhanced personal safety afforded by PCS.
Statement Regarding Nuisances that Will or Will Not Be Generated
No nuisances will be generated by the proposed PCS facility. Amica's equipment will be wholly
contained within the lease parcel. The only facilities necessary for this site are telephone and electric
facilities and are currently available. The facility will be unmanned and will have no impact on traffic nor
will it create any noise or air pollution. The proposed facility will not injure the public health safety, or
general welfare of the community. The facility will not interfere with any other forms of communication
whether public or private. To the contrary,PCS technology is a public utility, which will provide vital
communications in emergency situations and will be commonly used by local residents and emergency
personnel to protect the general public's health, safety and welfare.
