OfEC'
- c
v s
%[L
September 29, 1997
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 97-89
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L.Williams,Jr., City Manager 'I
Bruce A. McNabb, Director of Public Works '
I Matthew C. Newell, Traffic Engineer% '
SUBJECT: Modification of Parking Meter Timings in City Parking Lots
An item on the agenda for the City Council meeting of Monday, October 6, 1997, is an
ordinance modifying parking lot meter timings. This ordinance changes various parking meters in
the subject lots to three and ten hour maximum parking. No rate change is proposed with this
request. This proposal is consistent with direction given to staff from the City Council at the
September 22 study session meeting.
The Downtown Decatur Council originally proposed a mixture of four and ten hour
meters in the City's surface pazking lots. City staff is recommending that three hour meters be
used in lieu of four hour meters to discourage a11 day parking without additional enforcement.
Three hour meters are currently used in Parking Lots 3 and 4 for the reasons stated. No changes
are proposed for Lots 1 and 4.
Staff will be available to answer questions the City Council may have.
attach: 2
cc: John W. Couter, Corporation Counsel
John T. Robinson, Assistant Corporation Counsel
Daniel D. Mendenall, Traffic Control Supervisor
Laura J. Guy, Downtown Decatur Council
