. ,
EXCERPTS FROM TRAFFIC AND PARING COMMISSION MINUTES
Wednesday, March 12, 1997
Staff request to install a yield sign for southbound traffic at the intersection of 23rd and Logan.
Newell stated that he periodically receives requests and telephone calls about the intersection of
Logan and 23rd Streets. This intersection is a way to access Garfield from 22nd Street. Most of
the complaints center around the fact that there is no traffic control for any but the side streets,
and this is confusing. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices suggests that minor streets
get stop signs and that one of the major movements should be controlled with a yield sign. That
is the basis for the staff recommendation. There is no other intersection currently signed like this
in the City, and Newell has very little experience with this proposed solution.
,
Moore asked if there are signs that indicate that two streets at this intersection do not stop.
Newell advised that presently there are no signs like that, but that could be done. Those types of '
signs are put up where there is a potential for confusion at an intersection. There have been only 'i
a few accidents at this intersection. The people who use it do so frequently and know what to
expect. The yield sign is supposed to put priority on one of the movements over the other.
Comdr. Rich Ryan stated that visibility is good at this intersection, so the yield sign should be
good enough.
It was moved and seconded (Ryan /Hansen) to accept staff recommendation that a yield sign be
installed for southbound traffic to assign right-of-way to traffic utilizing the intersection. There
being no one opposed, the motion carried.
