. . .
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
#97 - 08
April 15, 1997
MEMO TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: James L. Williams!City Manager
Beth B. Couter, Financial Management Director
SUBJECT: Supplemental Appropriation Ordinance for the Americorps Fund
Attached is a Supplemental Appropriation Ordinance which increases the spending
authority in the Americorps Fund to provide for the stipends of participants in the program.
The additional revenue which could be needed from the carryover fund balance was not
known in July 1996 when the 1996-97 Appropriation Ordinance was passed. This fund has two
overlapping grant years within the City's fiscal year. Next year's grant was just recently
authorized by the Federal Government and was for more than was originally budgeted for. The
May 1, 1996 fund balance included some carryover funds from the previous grant year and may
be used to offset the new grant's expenses.
Staff will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding this matter.
