McNabb,Director of Public Works
Matthew C. Newell, Traf'ic Engineer ryf
SUBJECT: Ordinance Repealing Ordinance No. 77-13 Removing Parking
from the South Side of East Marietta Street Between Martin
Luther King, Jr. Drive and Jasper Street, Re-establishing a
Parking Prohibition on the South Side of Marietta Street Between
Jasper and Dlinois Streets and an Ordinance Removing Parking
from the North Side of East Marietta Street Between Martin
Luther King, Jr. Drive and Calhoun Street
At the December meeting of the Traffic and Parking Commission, the Commission
approved a request from the Decatur Housing Authority (DHA) to remove parking on the north
side and allow parking on the south side of Marietta Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
and Calhoun Street. This parking change was proposed by DHA to enhance the safety of the area
by moving parked cars away from the boulevard where children are often playing. The parked
cars tend to hide children from the view of passing motorists. The attached drawing indicates the
various parking changes that are being made by the two ordinances included with this
memorandum.
To provide for this ordinance, it is necessary to repeal Ordinance No. 77-13 that removed
parking from the entire length of Marietta Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and
Jasper Street. The repeal of Ordinance No. 77-13 requires the re-establishment of the parking
prohibition on the south side of Maxietta Street between Illinois and Jasper Streets.
